£100 Contactless limit to be scrapped

On Channel 5 News tonight with Dani Sinha discussing contactless spending after news that the £100 contactless limit will be removed from next March.

Great to be in the studio with Dani, as the last few times we’ve caught up it’s always been a chat when we’re both in the make up room!

In a nutshell what’s happening is that from next March, banks and card providers will be able to set higher contactless limits, rather than sticking to the current £100.

Contactless spending limits have gone up dramatically over the last 18 years. Way back in 2007 you could spend just £10 without tapping in your PIN number, but this has gradually increased over the years and and set at £100 in 2021 during the pandemic.

However important to know banks and card companies will only be allowed to raise limits providing they can prove they’ve got tough anti-fraud measures in place and tight security. And if you’re offered a higher contactless limit and not happy, you can always ask your bank or card company to set a lower one on your card.
